Sliders UK reports significant growth

By | Press releases | No Comments

Sliders UK has reported significant growth driven by its expanding bi-folding door offer and installer demand for reliable composite door supply.

According, to the door specialist, year-on-year sales were up 16% in November on the same time last year.

Steve Mines, Sales and Marketing Director, said new products, including the Ultimate Evolution and Sliders UK’s new Duraflex bi-folding doors, plus growth in composite door sales, had under-pinned growth.

Available in a wide range of glass options, the offer has been carefully selected to meet end-user aspiration and to build in margin and opportunity for installers.

Available in a wide range of glass options, the offer has been carefully selected to meet end-user aspiration and to build in margin and opportunity for installers.

He said: “We have been investing significantly in our product offering and manufacturing capability and we’re now seeing that convert into sales.

“We restructured our composite door line early in 2016 and that’s given us faster turnaround and an increasingly competitive offer at a time when reliability in the composite door sector has in general, dropped off.

“We’re also seeing the pull through now of the investment that we have made in our product range, including the launch of the Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-fold and our new bi-fold offering from Duraflex, which is a really good PVC-U system.”

Sliders UK Ultimate Collection composite door offer is built around the market leading 44mm Nan Ya slab. This is combined with a choice of the fully reinforced Duraflex, Veka and Eurocell 70mm PVC-U outer frame and slim, low line aluminium thresholds with twin seals.

Sliders UK announced the launch of the Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-fold door in late summer 2016.

Sitting alongside its established aluminium bi-fold door offer from ALUK, it features a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option. This makes it far simpler to align the door, even where apertures are out of square –  cutting installation times to as little as 45 minutes.

PAS24:2012 and Part Q compliant, the new Duraflex bi-folding door is fully integrated with the systems company’s Diamond suite, featuring beveled and chamfered options it achieves a DER ‘A’ rating and u-values as low as 1.1Wm2/K.

It’s launch and that of the Ultimate Evolution, follows that of two other Part Q tested doors. This includes the Veka Imagine as a second PVC-U bi-fold system, in addition to its established Eurocell Ultimate Aspect PVC-U door range at the beginning of the year, both feature a high security specification.

And the launch of the PremiLine PRO patio door from Kömmerling. Another Part Q ready door, it sits alongside Sliders UK’s established offer from Duraflex, giving the door specialist one of, if not the, industry’s largest bi-fold and patio door offers.

“We have seen incredible product innovation in 2016 and we have brought that together into a product portfolio which we believe delivers incredible opportunity to our customers – all from a single source of supply”, continued Mines.

“In the year ahead, this kind of flexibility and economy, is going to be increasingly important to installers, as much in the time it gives them back.

“We will continue to invest in the coming year.  We have several product additions planned for 2017, which we believe will deliver significant additional opportunity to our customers.”

Sitting alongside its established aluminium bi-fold door offer from ALUK, it features a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option. This makes it far simpler to align the door, even where apertures are out of square –  cutting installation times to as little as 45 minutes.

Sameday Trade Frames’ Managing Director, Mike Woodend, said the Ultimate Evolution was a good fit with its expanding product range

With trade counters in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cinderford, Bristol, Reading, Oxford and Bromsgrove, Sameday Trade Frames’ Managing Director, Mike Woodend, said the Ultimate Evolution was a good fit with its expanding product range.

He said: “We always work hard to lever a little purchasing power for our customers but our offer isn’t simply about price, it’s as much about product and service.

“The Ultimate Evolution is a good fit within our product portfolio. We were already offering the ALUK bi-folding door from Sliders UK but have now added the Ultimate Evolution and customers are really running with it.

“It makes installation easier, saves time on site but the sightlines and aesthetics are also good, while it gives them something a little bit more unique to sell.”

In addition to its adjustable jamb, the Ultimate Evolution combines an ultra-smooth bottom running system with impressively slim sightlines – even compared to other aluminium systems.

With a maximum sash height and width of 3000mm x 1200mm, colour-matched handles and magnetic door holders, a low threshold option and 30mm polyamide thermal break for increased thermal values, it is also fully tested to PAS 24:2012, Part Q approved and BS6375 Part 1 Weather Tested.

The Ultimate Evolution features a fully adjustable jamb option, which fitted to both sides of the door, makes squaring and setting faster - significantly reducing installation time

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK said: “Over-packing, under-packing against walls – it all contributes to putting the door out of square. The adjustable jamb option simplifies installation – it’s forgiving! And that saves time on site and time lost in call backs.

“The other thing to emphasize’ is that it looks really good, all the standard colours are there, the sightlines are stunning, there’s colour coordinated hardware it’s a great retail product.”

Scheduled for completion by the year-end, the new 10,000 sq ft facility, will house a new purpose-built distribution facility and new lines, as Sliders UK continues the expansion of its rapidly growing product portfolio.

Offering lead times of just two weeks, this has included the launch of four new products so far this year. This includes the Ultimate Evolution and Duraflex bi-fold doors, which were launched this autumn.

They followed the launch of the Ultimate Imagine bi-folding door in March and that of the PremiLine PRO patio from Kömmerling to its Part Q approved Ultimate inline sliding door and bi-folding door ranges, in April. This is in addition to established offers from ALUK, Eurocell and Distinction.

“But as a specialist, that’s all we do. Our lines are optimized for door fabrication, our people are trained in it and that combination means that our quality and services levels are high.

“We continue to build our offer because we see the opportunities ahead for supply into trade and new build markets, for us its very much about controlled growth. The investment we’re now making gives us that.”

“New customers are important but bringing our existing fabricator and installer base with us is our priority as we recognize that our growth is built on theirs.”

Indian Summer: Sliders UK supports Indian Schools Rugby Programm

By | Press releases | No Comments

A pioneering programme to promote educational achievement by bringing rugby to some of India’s most deprived cities and districts, has completed its 2016 tour.

The Delhi Hurricanes School Rugby Development Programme is built on a model first pioneered in the UK by the Atlas Foundation.

This promotes discipline and team working through the sport and has been shown to increase academic achievement in areas of social and economic deprivation here in the UK by 12 per cent.

It’s connection to the UK window industry comes courtesy of Sliders UK’s Operations Director, former London Irish loose-head prop Alex Murphy who coaches as part of the scheme.

He first formed links with the Delhi Hurricanes during his time as Business Head of Fenesta Building Systems. India’s largest PVC-U window manufacturer the company is part of the chemicals giant, DCM Shriram.

And also in the form of a sponsorship donation from Sliders UK with support from Duraflex, through the Atlas Foundation, which will finance three full-time coaching posts in Delhi.

The Atlas Foundation provides a link between businesses looking to make a contribution as part of their CSR strategies and grassroots rugby worldwide as a funding organization.

This year’s summer programme culminated in a festival of rugby held across Delhi, Chennai and Calcutta. “I went out to coach and support the programme and  the engagement that we got was absolutely incredible”, said Alex.

He continued: “The final day we had more than 300 kids there. These are people with very little, and they travelled some really long distances to take part.

“There were these two little girls who came from miles in their very best dresses and to see them running around playing rugby was a wonderful but at the same time, a very humbling experience.

“The programme makes a really big difference to people’s lives for not a lot of money and I’d like to thank the industry for the support its shown for it.”

The Atlas foundation was set up by 114 England Cap loose head prop Jason Leonard, to provide a link between businesses looking to make a contribution as part of their CSR strategies and grassroots rugby worldwide as a funding organization.

It’s also developed a network of ‘Champions’ who work with projects around the world, providing leadership and support to development programmes.

Sliders UK makes bi-fold installation simple with the Ultimate Evolution

By | Press releases | No Comments

Sliders UK has added the Ultimate Evolution bi-folding door to its expanding aluminium range as part of a commitment to deliver increased flexibility and choice to its customers.

With ultra-slim sightlines plus smooth bottom running system and concealed shoot bolt lock with single point handle, the Ultimate Evolution has been developed to build in increased margin at the retail point of sale.

It also features a fully adjustable jamb option, which fitted to both sides of the door, makes squaring and setting faster – significantly reducing installation time.

Steve Mines, Sales and Marketing Director, Sliders UK, said: “Aluminium has been a real growth area for us. The addition of the Ultimate Evolution to our existing ALUK offer is about consolidating that growth and our position as the industry’s go to supplier for aluminium bi-folding and inline sliding doors.

“It has cracking slim sightlines – even in comparison to other aluminium systems – and a really smooth running mechanism, which gives it a lot of end-user appeal almost to the point that it sells itself.

“But it also simplifies installation, saving time money and call backs, through a really innovative adjustable jamb option. Bi-fold installation is all about getting the door square – the Ultimate Evolution is a very forgiving and reliable system.”

Sliders UK launches ‘assisted-fit’ as part of its technical support servic

By | Press releases | No Comments

Sliders UK has expanded its technical support offer with the launch of its ‘assisted fit’ service.

With four Regional Technical Managers operating from strategic locations throughout the UK, Sliders UK launched its technical support service as part of its wider customer support offer last year.

This has now been expanded to include an assisted fit training service, developed by Sliders UK to support installers the first time they fit products from its market leading bi-fold, inline sliding and composite door range.

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK, said: “Get it right and installation is actually very straightforward. All of our doors are rig-tested prior to dispatch a as part of our rigorous quality control programme, so there shouldn’t be any problems in installation.

“But each system does have its own characteristics and there are always those little tricks of the trade which can help make installation go that little bit smoother. That’s really what assisted fit is about – short-cutting that learning process through trial and error.”

Sliders UK’s Technical Support Service team members include Regional Technical Managers Ian Bartam, Cliff Thomas, Barry Pease and Lee Handley [pictured], who tot-up well over 100 years of collective experience in window and door installation and manufacture.

This includes extensive in-house training across Sliders UK’s range of ALUK, Distinction, Duraflex, Eurocell, Kommerling and Veka inline sliding, bifold and composite door ranges.

With four Regional Technical Managers on the road, Sliders UK offers an unparalleled technical support service

With four Regional Technical Managers on the road, Sliders UK offers an unparalleled technical support service

Lee said: “As a team we have got a lot of experience in manufacture and installation but before we went out on the road we still went through several weeks in the factory manufacturing all of the different systems that Sliders UK supplies so we know each product inside out.

“We do a lot of remedial work for Sliders customers but have the capacity to do anything up to full realignment and reversal of opening and closing systems” commented Lee, but added “Our more proactive and rewarding role is to help customers get it right, right from the start!”

Sliders UK ‘sinful six’ bifold installation errors:

  1. Not using enough or too many packers to level under the cill properly
  2. No hinge locking screws – make sure locking screws are in place before the glazing goes in!
  3. Lubrication – make sure anti-friction sprays are applied to rollers, hinges and gaskets after installation
  4. Not enough fixings/packers used in establishing fix to walls, leading to movement/out of square
  5. Toe & Heeling errors – always start at the bottom of the hinge side of the door, pack it square and then toe and heel to the opposite corner
  6. Cutting gaskets too short – allow additional length for expansion and contraction

“The assisted scheme is about giving fitters confidence and the knowledge to do the job and avoid the pitfalls, particularly on bi-folds”, explained Barry. He continued: “Tolerances in bi-folding doors are so minimal and a mm here or there can impact massively on operation.”

“But get it square, properly packed and it’s relatively straightforward. It’s about knowing the systems. We can give fitters the training and confidence to get it right, avoid mistakes and the time and money associated with call backs.”

Installer’s liability? – When PAS24:2012 isn’t PAS24:2012

By | Press releases | No Comments

Sliders UK has warned that lack of clarity, continuous testing and third-party accreditation, could mean thousands of PAS24:2012 accredited doors fitted in the UK fall short of Part Q.

Introduced in October last year, Building Regulations Part Q, sets PAS24:2012 as the new minimum standard for security in new build.

But in failing to place a requirement on fabricators to independently assess quality management systems or to ensure that specifications are met consistently, it fails to safeguard product quality.

Ian Longbottom, Chairman, Sliders UK explained: “It’s all about the ‘golden sample’ –you only need to prove that you can manufacture to a set standard once to ‘achieve’ PAS24:2012.

“We remain concerned that over time we will find fabricators stating that a product is PAS24:2012 based on a single assessment or system house accreditation.

“This won’t reflect possible hardware changes and there will be no control on quality or independent testing to ensure that those specifications don’t impact on performance.

“We believe that this could create a legal minefield with installers battling it out with fabricators as to liability, where installations are tested and fall short of regulations.”

This is cited by Sliders UK as a key differential between PAS24:2012 and Secured by Design, the latter placing a requirement on fabricators to be able to evidence controls on quality and to undergo independent third-party assessment.

This includes the full remit of testing under PAS24:2012 – security, weather testing, operating forces and cycle testing. “It demonstrably shows that a product is fully ‘fit for purpose’, unlike Document Q, which only prescribes that a supplier underwrites his own assurance that a product has passed the security element of the testing only”, added Ian.

The Ultimate Patio Door from Sliders UK became the first patio door to achieve the SBD accreditation in 2008

The Ultimate Patio Door from Sliders UK became the first patio door to achieve the SBD accreditation in 2008

Sliders UK became the first PVC-U patio door manufacturer to be accredited with Secured by Design status in 2008, securing the first PVC-U bi-folding door SBD approval in 2009. Since then, the company has added its Ultimate Aluminium bi-fold door – another industry first – a second PVC-U bi-fold door system and an extensive range of composite doors.

Ian continued: “There is a perception that a PAS24:2012 door puts a tick in all of the boxes in the same way as SBD does but there are some really quite significant differences the most notable of which are requirements for independent testing and safeguards on quality.

“We don’t believe for a moment that anyone would deliberately mislead industry colleagues or end users but if products fall short of specifications over time, installers may find themselves fighting it out with their suppliers as to where liabilities sit.

“Secured by Design accredited products take away all of that risk.”

Industry ‘rucks’ in in support of Indian rugby

By | Press releases | No Comments

Sliders UK has donated funding to the Atlas Foundation to finance a pioneering schools programme, which promotes educational achievement in schools through rugby.

The Delhi Hurricanes School Rugby Development Programme – a team with close links to Sliders UK’s Operations Director, Alex Murphy – is built on a model first pioneered in the UK by the Atlas Foundation.

This promotes discipline and team working through the sport and has been shown to increase academic achievement in areas of social and economic deprivation here in the UK by 12 per cent.

Previously coached by former London Irish loose-head prop Murphy, the Delhi Hurricanes scheme works with 11 schools, including an all-girls school, drawn from across some of the most impoverished parts of the city.

The funding made available by Sliders UK with support from Duraflex, through the Atlas Foundation, will finance three full-time coaching posts.

Murphy will also return to India this summer as part of the programme having first formed links with the Delhi Hurricanes during his time as Business Head of Fenesta Building Systems. India’s largest PVC-U window manufacturer the company is part of the chemicals giant, DCM Shriram.

Sliders UK reports significant Q1 growth

By | Press releases | No Comments

Sliders UK has reported significant Q1 growth on the back of increasing demand for enhanced security products.

The specialist door manufacturer, which last month was listed by the London Stock Exchange Group as among UK’s 1,000 fasted growing SMEs, reported that turnover was up by more than 31 per cent in Q1 2016, compared to the same time last year.

The growth coincides with significant investment by Sliders UK in its product offering. This has included three new door launches in the first three months of the year including the Veka Imagine bi-folding; the Kömmerling PremiLine PRO inline sliding door and a second aluminium bi-fold door system.

This comes in on top of established offers including the Eurocell Ultimate Aspect PVC-U bi-fold, inline sliding doors from Duraflex, and aluminium bi-folding and inline sliding doors from ALUK.

Available in a wide range of glass options, the offer has been carefully selected to meet end-user aspiration and to build in margin and opportunity for installers.

Available in a wide range of glass options, the offer has been carefully selected to meet end-user aspiration and to build in margin and opportunity for installers.

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK said: “It’s been a very good start to 2016 with increases in turnover topping the 30 per cent in the first three months of the year.

“This is in part attributable to continued and growing demand for Secured by Design accredited products with notable pick-up in the commercial sector in Q1.

“We’re also doing more composite doors as the trade switches on to the benefits of buying from a single point of supply and the significant economies that that delivers.”

Including traditional and contemporary designs, Sliders UK Ultimate Collection composite doors are built around the market leading 44mm Nan Ya slab, with its high insulation foam core and robust through-coloured GRP facings.

This is combined with a choice of the fully reinforced Duraflex, Veka and Eurocell 70mm PVC-U outer frame and slim, low line aluminium thresholds with twin seals.

With multiple options on locking, an enhanced security option uses Fullex Kinetica TS007 3 Star Kitemarked cylinder system to deliver an SBD/PAS24:2012 option. Handles and door furniture are Fab & Fix.

Standard colours are black, red, blue, green, Gold Oak and Rosewood. In its entirety the range includes a choice of 40 satin finishes including the popular Chartwell, to greys including platinium, lead, and granite through to Pistachio and Claret.

“It’s very difficult to second guess the impact a referendum on UK membership of the UK is going to have, however, this aside, we’re forecasting continuing growth throughout the year”, continued Mines.

He concluded: “We’re seeing a real return of confidence and the investment that we have made so far this year, plus the very significant new developments that we have planned for later in 2016, will give us and most importantly our customers, some very unique opportunities.”
