Patio Door Access For All
Sliders UK is now offering its customers an aluminium low threshold option on its patio door sets. The component features a ramp on either side of the patio door, enabling easy access for wheelchair users.
Access for all is an important consideration for people operating within the building trade. Installing an accessible patio door can be a straightforward and cost-effective way of providing wheelchair users with safe and easy access to a building.
The option is available on all patio door sets and can accommodate a variety of wheelchair widths, however for Document M compliance doors would need to provide a clear opening of 775mm for existing and 1000mm for new buildings. This ensures that the opening is wide enough for any wheelchair user to access the building safely and comfortably. Meanwhile, the aluminium ramps have anti-slip ridges, so help to grip in wet weather.
The threshold is available in a choice of two colours – silver or gold, ensuring that it suites with other components of the patio door and doesn’t compromise its aesthetics.
The product is designed to conform to the requirements of Document M and whilst it has already been specified on some projects installers are advised to check with their local Building Control Officer for their individual interpretation.
