Forecasts for aluminium windows and doors in the UK 2018

By | Analysis

Its reference in the Periodic Table is AL, its atomic number is 13 and it’s the third most abundant element after Oxygen and Silicon. And it’s also the third most ‘abundant’ material in the UK window and door industry – and forecast to become more so across retail, new build and commercial markets.

According to the The Window, Door and Conservatory Markets in Housing in Great Britain, by Palmer, aluminium saw 24% growth in the last year, including 26% growth in volume terms and installed value by 28% in sales of aluminium windows.

Going forward forecasts suggest it will remain one of the key drivers of growth for the UK window and door industry. It’s dominance in the bi-fold door market – accounting for 59% of market share in 2016 – is also tipped for continuing growth.

“What we have in aluminium bi-fold doors is a very happy convergence of a product type, which has really captured the imagination of the end-user and a material type, that is also seen by them as having an architectural quality and carries an aspirational appeal”, says Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK.

“The net effect is aluminium bi-fold doors are a major growth area.”

Sliders UK, has a highly flexible aluminium bi-fold offer. This includes its established ALUK bi-fold and the Ultimate Evolution.

It’s ALUK bi-fold is available in two to seven panel configurations, is Part Q and PAS24 accredited, and features concealed running gear, heavy-duty rollers and stainless steel tracks and multiple opening options.

Maximum height and width is 2500mm X 7000mm, while maximum individual panel width is 1200m and a maximum weight 100kg, giving it a high degree of structural flexibility. U-values are as low as 1.4w/m2K, while it’s also severe weather rated BS6375 -1:2009, Water 600PA. Air 600PA and Wind pressure of 1800 PA.

It’s available in white gloss, anthracite grey matt, and semi-gloss graphite black as standard colours, while all hardware and frames are guaranteed for 10 years.

“The ALUK door typifies that architectural aesthetic aluminium delivers and which has created incredible end user appeal”, continues Mines.

“PVC-U products continue to have significant reach. The price point will be more palatable to a lot of homeowners and innovation in foiling technologies has moved the appeal of the PVC-U bi-fold but aluminium remains dominant in the bi-fold door market”, he says.

The Ultimate Evolution bi-fold simplifies door squaring and setting using two full adjustable jambs.

Sliders UK, which completed a an MBO earlier this year,  launched the Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-fold door last summer. It draws on innovation in hardware, combining a ultra-smooth bottom running system with impressively slim sightlines – even compared to other aluminium systems.

With a maximum sash height and width of 3000mm x 1200mm, colour-matched handles and magnetic door holders, a low threshold option and 30mm polyamide thermal break for increased thermal values, it is also fully tested to PAS 2, Part Q approved and BS6375 Part 1 Weather Tested.

This may give it end-user appeal, but it’s an innovative fully adjustable jamb option which dramatically simplifies door squaring and setting and increases tolerances, which is perhaps the biggest single innovation. An easy-adjustment system delivering up to 8mm of tolerance, making if far simpler to align the door even where apertures are out of square.

Mines continues: “The Ultimate Evolution, offered our customers something that is different again and with that the new opportunities that go with it.

“Aluminium systems in general are unforgiving, leaving little room for maneuver in installation. The Ultimate Evolution, far greater flexibility, accommodating imperfections in brick-work making it easier to set the door, cutting installation times to as little as 45-minutes.”

While PVC-U outperformed market forecasts last year, projections from Palmer going forward for PVC-U as a material type are less favourable.

Mines, however, remains sanguine about the place PVC-U bi-folds can hold in the market. “The Ultimate Aspect, built around the Eurocell system demonstrate what is being delivered in new generation PVC-U technology.”

This includes two to seven panel configuration Part Q and PAS24 – but most significantly U-values as low as 0.94Wm2/K.

Thermal performance combined with a competitive price point compared to aluminium systems, giving the Ultimate Aspect appeal and particularly so in new build markets “The slim contemporary sightlines echo those of an aluminium systems”, Mines adds.

The Ultimate Aluminium Window offers a high degree of flexibility making it ideal for contemporary or traditional installations

Sliders UK has also stepped into new territory adding two new aluminium windows to its offer this autumn.  The Ultimate Residential Window is manufactured in ALUK’s Optio system and is primarily aimed at the residential market. The other, its’ own offering, the Ultimate Evolution XT, which offers U-Values as low as 0.85 W/m2K giving it exceptional commercial and specification appeal.

It has also recently launched the Ultimate Rooflite, an aluminium lantern roof based on the BBA accredited UltraRoof system.

“We see some very substantial opportunities, particularly in aluminium but across our portfolio of products”, says Mines.

He continues: “We’re offering a competitively priced high quality and highly accredited product range and underpinning that with a genuine focus on customer service.

“We believe that gives us but most importantly our customers, access to a very strong market proposition across the board.”

This includes the the Ultimate Evolution Aluminium Bi-folding door, launched late last year. It’s USP is a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option, which fitted to both sides of the door, makes squaring and setting faster – cutting installation time to as little as 45 minutes.

This was launched in addition to its pre-existing ALUK aluminium bi-folding door range and its extensive PVC-U and composite door offer, including Duraflex and Eurocell.

It has also recently added the Ultimate Rooflite – an aluminium lantern roof – to its offer. It’s based on the tried and tested BBA approved Ultraframe Classic roofing system and is suitable for installation as either part of a new build orangery or retro-fit to a flat-roof.

MBO and product development the foundation of record growth for Sliders UK

By | Press releases

Six-months on from its MBO, Sliders UK has reported record growth, driven by product development and rapidly growing share in the aluminium market.

According, to the door specialist, year-on-year sales were up 36% at the end of September on the same time last year, driven by increased sales in its Ultimate Evolution and ALUK aluminium bi-folding door ranges.

It comes following this April’s MBO and a significant restructure of the business, including six-figure investment in its manufacturing capability and the expansion of its product and service offer.

Ian Longbottom, Chairman, Sliders UK said: “The MBO in April allowed the new senior management team to take the brakes off the business and to set our ambitious growth strategy running.

“That’s included major investment in our aluminum offer, including the Ultimate Evolution adjustable jamb bi-fold and continuing investment in our established offer from ALUK.

“We have now been able to move this further forward with the launch of two new aluminium window systems, in addition to our PVC-U and composite door ranges, which have given our customers new reach into the higher margin aluminium sector.”

Completed at the end of April, the management buy-out, saw Longbottom continue in the role he assumed in 2016, as Sliders UK Chairman. Steve Mines also remaining in his existing post as Sales Director.

They were joined in a newly created senior management team by Sliders UK’s new Managing Director, Alex Murphy, previously Operations Director and Finance Director, Jonathan Foxcroft.

This followed a 10,000 sq ft expansion of Sliders UK’s manufacturing hub, housing a new purpose-built distribution facility, new lines and the expansion of its product offer.

This included the new Duraflex bi-folding door, which achieves a DER ‘A’ rating and u-values as low as 1.1Wm2/K, in addition to established PVC-U offers from Eurocell.

The Ultimate Evolution bi-fold can cut installation time to as little as 45minutes

But it is its aluminium offer which has been the major foundation of the door specialist’s growth, including the Ultimate Evolution Aluminium Bi-folding door, launched late last year.

It’s USP is a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option, which fitted to both sides of the door, makes squaring and setting faster – cutting installation time to as little as 45 minutes.

This was followed by the launch of the Ultimate Rooflite – an aluminium lantern roof – and the Evolution XT ultra-energy efficient aluminium window last month [Sept].  This delivers a Passive Haus equivalent standard of performance with u-values as low as 0.85 W/m2K.

Ian Longbottom, Chairman, Sliders UK

“The market is in general challenging, which makes what we and our customers are achieving even more impressive”, continued Longbottom. “The investment that we have made in our infrastructure and our product ranges is now paying off for us – but most importantly, our customers.

“The growth we’re now seeing in our aluminium window and door ranges is a real testimony to that and we believe it puts them and us in a very strong position going forward”, he concluded.

According to the The Window, Door and Conservatory Markets in Housing in Great Britain, by Palmer, aluminium saw 24% growth in the last year, including 26% growth in volume terms and installed value by 28% in sales of aluminium windows.

‘Good sport’: Sliders UK supports Indian Schools Rugby Programme

By | Press releases

Sliders UK has continued its support for a pioneering programme to promote educational achievement by bringing rugby to some of India’s most deprived cities and districts.

The Delhi Hurricanes School Rugby Development Programme is built on a model first pioneered in the UK by the Atlas Foundation.

This promotes discipline and team working through the sport and has been shown to increase academic achievement in areas of social and economic deprivation here in the UK by 12 per cent.

Sliders UK has continued its support for the programme this year through the sponsorship of the 2017 Tour and Festival of Rugby, which took place over the summer.

Alex Murphy, Sliders UK’s Managing Director and former London Irish loose-head prop, coaches as part of the scheme.

He explained: “The Delhi Hurricanes School Rugby Development Programme gives children from some of the most deprived neighbourhoods of Delhi, Chennai and Calcutta the opportunity to take part in organized team sport – often for the very first time.

“In leaving that poverty behind them, even for just a few days, and focusing on a team sport, you see these kids grow in confidence, understand that they can achieve and that through longer term mentoring, translates into a better performance in their school work.”

Alex Murphy, Managing Director, Sliders UK

Murphy first formed links with the Delhi Hurricanes during his time as Business Head of Fenesta Building Systems. India’s largest PVC-U window manufacturer the company is part of the chemicals giant, DCM Shriram.

Sliders UK’s continuing sponsorship of the scheme helps to finance three full-time coaching posts in Delhi, funded by the Atlas Foundation.

The Atlas foundation was set up by 114 England Cap loose-head prop Jason Leonard, to provide a link between businesses looking to make a contribution as part of their CSR strategies and grassroots rugby worldwide as a funding organization.

It’s also developed a network of ‘Champions’ who work with projects around the world, providing leadership and support to development programmes.

The scheme in India involves more than 800 regular players, a 50/50 mix of boys and girls under the age of 16 including an all-girls school

“The programme makes a really big difference to a lot people’s lives for not a lot of money. It’s an absolute privilege and genuinely humbling to be able to support these children and I’d like to thank the industry for the continuing support its shown for them”, continued Murphy.

Find out how our new ultra-energy efficient aluminium window can become key to your future growth

By | Blog

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK, explains how industry leading thermal efficiency combined with a flexible choice of finishes and exclusive sales areas, make the Ultimate Evolution XT a must-have product.

The end-user demand for aluminium windows has been there for some time. Thermal performance and reliability of supply hasn’t been.

We’ve been into countless customers and the story is the same – jobs delayed or incomplete because windows haven’t been delivered on time or jobs lost or switched to PVC-U, because the cost of energy efficient aluminum windows is prohibitive.

Customer demand has been in no small part, an influence on our decision to manufacture our own 66mm aluminium window, the Ultimate Evolution XT. The other driver has been our commitment to the strategic development of our product portfolio, where it makes sense to do so and where we can add-value to our offer to our customers.

Offering U-values as low as 0.85 W/m2K – a Passive Haus equivalent standard of performance – the Ultimate Evolution XT more than fits the bill.

It’s an incredibly exciting product, delivering thermal performance that you would be hard-pushed to achieve in a PVC-U window, let alone competitively in an aluminium one. That’s why we see it as being absolutely key to our own  and no less importantly – our customers’ growth.

Exclusively available in the UK, through Sliders UK, The Evolution XT houses insulated glazed units of up to 48mm, which means it comfortably accommodates triple-glazed units.

The patented and ultra thermally efficient Evolution XT thermal break

It’s exceptional thermal performance also draws on a highly innovative and patented thermal break. This features a multi-chamber composite core, filled with highly insulative foam, to create an ultra-energy efficient thermal barrier and with it one of the most energy efficient aluminium windows on the market.

We see this as being a real asset to our customers – an advanced aluminium window reliably supplied alongside their existing bi-fold, inline- sliding, composite door or lantern roof orders.

It’s also available off-list price. This was something which we know is really important to our customers who can pay wildly differing prices for the same window based on how busy their supplier is or isn’t. Our pricing structure is completely transparent and there for anyone to see.

We’re also committing to exclusive sales areas. The Ultimate Evolution XT is a high performance product. We’re not about to de-value that by flooding the market and setting-up our customer’s competitors just a few miles down the road. We want the Ultimate Evolution XT to be an aluminium window, which drives sales. It’s strictly first come first served.

And that’s because the Ultimate Evolution XT delivers stacks of USPs – not just exceptional thermal efficiency in an aluminum window. This includes finish options.

While the Ultimate Evolution XT is available in white or anthracite grey as standard, it also comes in dual colour options and any RAL colour as special order. This includes marine-grade Qualicoat polyester powder coating as standard. It means we’re able to offer a 10-year surface finish guarantee even where installed in coastal areas.

The Ultimate Evo XT is also available in Golden Oak, Rosewood, Worn Ash, Teak, Cherry and Dark Oak, Decoral woodgrain options. Far more hard-wearing and robust than PVC-U foils, these also come with a 10-year guarantee.

The Ultimate Evolution XT window by Sliders UK:

  • Thermally broken 66mm aluminium system
  • Patented thermal break technologies
  • U-values of as low as 0.85 Wm2K
  • Accommodates 28mm to 48mm (double and triple glazed) IGUs
  • Multiple sash options
  • Internally or externally beaded
  • Multiple coupler profiles to achieve widespan windows
  • Part Q and PAS24:2016 compliant
  • Weather tested to BS 6375 – 1:2009
    • Air classification – 4: 600pa
    • Water tightness – E900: 900pa
    • Wind resistance – EA2400
  • Operational performance tested to BS6375 – 2: 2009
    • Resistance to racking – Class 3
    • Static torsion – Class 3
    • Repeated opening and closing – Class 3 (20,000 cycles)
    • Operating forces – Class 1
  • 10-year finish guarantee

The Evolution XT is available in white and anthracite grey as standard plus premium and hard wearing Decoral finishes

If you look at where the market is going, it’s very easy to identify the growth opportunities that the Ultimate Evolution XT has the potential to deliver.

Although the market for glazing as a whole, took a dip south in 2015, falling by 0.7%, installed value actually increased to £4.20billion (Palmer), the decline in volume offset by a shift to higher value products aluminium key aongst them – up by 8% in 2015 to £370million.

Although PVC-U systems retain the lion’s share of the glazing market, Palmer also suggests aluminium continues to gain ground – up 6% in volume terms last year.  This means that it now accounts for 9% of the total housing market.

Manufacture of Ultimate Evolution XT energy efficient aluminium windows, means that we’re geared up to supporting our customers in accessing the opportunities that this growth delivers.

That’s why we continue to expand our product portfolio. It’s about identifying products which deliver more to our customers. This has included the launch of the Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-folding door, alongside our other aluminium and PVC-U folding sliding doors and our aluminium lantern roof the Ultimate Rooflite.

The Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-folding door offers ultra-slim sightlines plus smooth bottom running system and concealed shoot bolt lock with single point handle. It also features a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option, which fitted to both sides of the door, makes squaring and setting faster – cutting installation time to as little as 45 minutes.

These time savings have made the Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-fold popular with installers, while also delivering bags of end-user appeal. Supplied alongside the Ultimate Evolution XT energy efficient aluminium window and you have a compelling offer.

The launch of the Ultimate Rooflite makes it even easier to get all of the products for your next job on a single delivery and against a single order.

It’s based on the tried and tested BBA approved Ultraframe Classic roofing system. Capable of spanning openings of up to 5.8m long by 4m wide, it’s suitable for installation as either part of a new build orangery or retro-fit to a flat-roof.

Sold individually or together, these highly innovative aluminium windows, aluminium bi-folding doors and lantern roofs, deliver added value to our customers in on-site efficiencies, in our service and support offer, including assisted first time fits and in the commercial opportunities that they deliver.

We continue to build and grow together.

Sliders UK launches ultra-energy efficient aluminium window

By | Press releases

Sliders UK has announced the launch of a new ultra-energy efficient aluminium window as part of the strategic expansion of its specialist product portfolio.

The 66mm Ultimate EVO XT window, is available in multiple sash options, accommodating double and triple-glazed insulated units of up to 48mm.

This, combined with its patented thermal break technologies, means that the Ultimate EVO XT achieves u-Values as low as 0.85 W/m2K – a Passive Haus equivalent standard of performance. It’s also fully tested to PAS24 and is part Q compliant.

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK said: “The thermal performance that we’re able to achieve with a triple or even a double-glazed unit is incredibly impressive.

“We can do this because the Ultimate EVO XT features a very smart thermal breaking system and insulated foam core.

“This combined with slim sightlines, plus a wide choice of finishing options and purchase from list price, makes the case for adding the Evolution XT to your retail offer compelling.”

Exclusively available through the specialist manufacturer in the UK, the Evolution XT is tested to BS 6375 – 2: 2009 including air classification to 600pa; water tightness to 900pa and wind resistance to EA2400. It has also been fully tested to 20,000 opening and closing cycles.

Available in white or anthracite grey as standard, plus dual colour options and any RAL colour as special order, Ultimate Evolution XT windows from Sliders UK are polyester powder coated to a marine-grade finish and come with a 10-year guarantee.

The Ultimate Evo XT is also available in Golden Oak, Rosewood, Worn Ash, Teak, Cherry and Dark Oak, Decoral woodgrain options. Far more hard-wearing and robust than PVC-U foils, Decoral finishes also come with a 10-year guarantee.

The launch of the Ultimate Evolution XT sits within a wider programme off strategic product development set by Sliders UK last year and accelerated following April’s MBO.

It already includes the launch of the Ultimate Evolution bi-fold, which offers ultra-slim sightlines plus a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option. This makes squaring and setting faster – cutting installation time to as little as 45 minutes.

Sliders UK has also recently added the new Ultimate Rooflite to its portfolio, which is based on the tried and tested BBA approved Ultraframe Classic roofing system and is suitable for installation as either part of a new build orangery or retro-fit to a flat-roof.

“As a specialist, we see it as in our customers’ and our own interests, to expand our product range, where see it will deliver opportunities for them”, continued Mines.

“The Evolution XT window is illustrative of this approach. The performance that it delivers is exceptional but as an aluminium system, and one which we’re combining with flexible finishing options, it delivers positive differentiation at a time when differentiation in window retail is thin on the ground.”

Why buying-in French, bi-fold and patio doors alongside rooflites from a single source of supply could save installers thousands

By | Blog

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK, explains why rooflites go hand-in-hand with bi-folds, French and patio doors.

One order, one delivery, one invoice – buying in doors from a single source supplier makes a lot of sense. As a door specialist, we can offer our customers a complete door range giving them time back – that’s time processing orders, paying invoices and time away from site to accept deliveries.

We offer one of the UK’s most competitive bi-folding door, French door and inline sliding door ranges, plus a wide choice of composite doors.

Adding a lantern roof to this offer was for us, a logical step. It delivers additional flexibility to our customers, allowing them to order everything for an orangery-type installation from a single source supplier.

Capable of spanning openings of up to 5.8m long by 4m wide, the Ultimate Rooflite by Sliders UK, has been designed to offer installers a highly flexible but also competitive product.

It’s based on the tried and tested BBA approved Ultraframe Classic roofing system and is suitable for installation as either part of a new build orangery or retro-fit to a flat-roof. Thermally broken the Ultimate Rooflite achieves typical U-values of 1.4W/m2K which should also make it popular with homeowners.

Glazing options include self-cleaning, solar control glass in blue or neutral tints. Color and finish options include standard white PVC-U or powder coated aluminium options in white, anthracite grey or satin black.

It’s a strong proposition for new build installations but also importantly the retro-fit market because it can be installed to pre-existing flat roofs. The transformative potential that this has is difficult to overstate, making it a very strong retail proposition.

The Market for Domestic Conservatories, by Palmer, suggests that while the home market for traditional Victorian-type conservatories fell by 9% in 2015 to 57,000 units, the replacement market reported growth of 13%.

Home-owners, it says, are also moving away from Victorian-type conservatories and towards more flexible orangery, orangery/conservatory type installations. This Palmer also argues, this is driving significant growth in the market for replacement roofs, which grew to 11,200 – up 62% in 2015 and forecast for continuing growth through to 2020.

The markets we’re targeting with the Ultimate Rooflite mirror those growth areas. It’s a great new build orangery solution but also it can also be retro-fitted and has reach into the flat roof replacement market.

But where we can really engineer in value to our offer is that it can be delivered on the same order as our customer’s exiting bi-folding, patio and French door delivery.

We offer one of the UK’s most expansive bi-folding door, patio and French door ranges. This includes aluminium bi-folding doors from ALUK, and Eurocell’s Aspect bi-fold.

We added a second PVC-U bi-fold from Duraflex to our offer at the end of last year. PAS24:2012 and Part Q compliant, the new Duraflex bi-folding door is fully integrated with the systems company’s Diamond suite, featuring beveled and chamfered options it achieves a DER ‘A’ rating and u-values as low as 1.1Wm2/K.

In addition to our established ALUK aluminium offer, we also supply the Ultimate Evolution . With ultra-slim sightlines plus smooth bottom running system and concealed shoot bolt lock with single point handle, the Ultimate Evolution has been developed to build in increased margin at the retail point of sale.

It also features a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option, which fitted to both sides of the door, makes squaring and setting faster – cutting installation time to as little as 45 minutes.

Time is money. With options to order inline sliding patio doors from Kömmerling and Duraflex, we offer our customers genuine commercial edge.

The Premiline Pro for example, features a high security locking mechanism operated through patented interlock shootbolt system, it’s PAS24 and Part Q approved.

It’s available in panel openings of to 2, 3 or 4 panel openings – again that’s a PAS24 and Part Q accredited door.

High quality stainless steel tracks guarantee the maximum possible service life and smooth running, while the clean sightlines of the 70mm outer frame are further enhanced through a wide choice of colours and low sightline black or grey gaskets.

These innovations are immediately tangible to the homeowner and that equates to opportunity.

Our product development strategy is focused on those innovations which deliver a distinct commercial advantage to our customers.

The Ultimate Rooflite is a very well-considered product, it delivers installation efficiencies to installers, has masses of end user appeal.

Where on this occasion we can add greatest value, is that we can supply it alongside bi-folds, French or inline sliding doors as part of a single order and on a single delivery, saving them time, money and with one of the industry’s best OTIFs, a whole lot of hassle.

Ultimate Evolution – adjustable jamb offered as standard

By | Press releases

Sliders UK is offering the time-saving fully adjustable jamb as standard on its Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-folding door.

Fitted to both sides of the door, the Ultimate Evolution adjustable jamb makes squaring and setting faster by accommodating imperfections in brick work.

With a 4mm tolerance on each jamb, this can cut installation time to as little as 45 minutes, saving fitters time on site, supporting a better fit and through-life operation.

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK said: “We have a technical support team out on the road, to support customers – normally builders but one or two installers – to correct the running of installed doors.

“9 times out of 10, the issues are caused because doors haven’t been installed square. Over-packing, under-packing against walls – it all contributes to putting the door out of square.

“The adjustable jamb option simplifies installation – it’s forgiving! And that saves time on site and time lost in call backs.”

The Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-fold door was launched by Sliders UK at the tail end of last year.

The Ultimate Evolution adjustable jamb delivers 4mm tolerance on each side of the door

It’s available in multiple panel configurations including open-in or open-out, with a maximum sash height and width of 3000mm x 1200mm.

With colour-matched handles and magnetic door holders, a low threshold option and 30mm polyamide thermal break for increased thermal values, it is also fully tested to PAS 24 and BS6375 Part 1 Weather Testing.

Alongside the Ultimate Evolution, Sliders UK, which completed an MBO in April, also offers the ALUK bi-fold.

It also recently launched Duraflex’s new PVC-U bi-fold at the tail end of the year. A second PVC-U bi-fold system – and launched in addition to the Eurocell Aspect bi-fold door – it’s Part Q approved and delivers u-values as low as 1.1Wm2/K.

Mines concluded: “We have a really good track record in product development, something which is seen by the new senior management team as key to our future growth.

“We can offer the market two great PVC-U bi-folds and two great aluminum bi-folding doors, each at slightly different price points, which supports our customers in covering all bases.

The Ultimate Evolution, delivers a level of end user affordability but also packs in margin because of the installation efficiencies that it delivers.”

Why you could be fitting bi-fold doors in as little as 45-minutes

By | Blog

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK, explains how the Ultimate Evolution, could save installers time and money.

Sometimes theory and practice don’t quite always align. For example, bi-fold doors are, in theory straight forward to fit. In reality –  they’re often anything but.

Get things slightly out of line or out of square, pack them incorrectly or fail to toe and heel in glass properly and you can be staring down twin barrels of lost time in installation or call backs.

We’re committed to supporting our customers in avoiding both through our rigorous in-house testing procedures, assisted-fit programme and in the products that we supply.

Each-and-every door that we manufacture goes through a series of recorded operational tests as part of our quality control process.  This includes filming of operation in our test rig. If it doesn’t run, it doesn’t leave, it’s as simple as that.

The testing in the rig shows that the door does what it’s meant to do –  as long as it goes in square, it’s packed correctly, toed and heeled correctly, there shouldn’t be a problem

It then goes onto packaging and dispatch, where it’s expertly wrapped and protected, components are checked and double checked, before being loaded onto our own dedicated fleet.

We underpin this with on the road national technical support. Our team are on-hand to trouble shoot problems – but we’d much rather avoid them. That’s why we offer an assisted fit programme.

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK

If you’re ordering a door from us for the first time, we’ll send out one of our field service engineers to support the installation. Every system has slightly different characteristics – we manufacture bi-folding doors from ALUK, and Eurocell’s Aspect bi-fold, plus the new  Duraflex bi-fold – and there are tricks of the trade that apply to each that make installation got that little bit more smoothly.

Regardless of system, getting the door square is key to a successful installation. ALUK, Duraflex, and the Eurocell Aspect are great doors but they all need to be set square. Our fourth bi-fold door – the Ultimate Evolution– massively simplifies this process.

With ultra-slim sightlines plus smooth bottom running system and concealed shoot bolt lock with single point handle, the Ultimate Evolution has been developed to build in increased margin at the retail point of sale.

But what sets it apart from other doors is the way in which it simplifies installation, saving time money and call backs, through a really innovative adjustable jamb option.

Bi-fold installation is all about getting the door square – the Ultimate Evolution is a very forgiving and reliable system

The fully adjustable jamb, is fitted to both sides of the door, making squaring and setting faster, easily accommodating imperfections in brick work and significantly reducing installation time.

This means that doors can be fitted in as little as 45-minutes – a fraction of the time that it would normally take to install a large aluminium bi-fold.

We offer the Ultimate Evolution on lead times of two-weeks or less. As a specialist, door manufacture we’re geared up for bi-folds. That means that our quality is high, our lead times are short and because we’re doing the volume, we’re able to offer some of the industry’s most competitive prices.

This includes a highly competitive offer on the Ultimate Evolution, which allows installers to build in more margin.

It’s a product which has an impressive specification but remains affordable. This gives us greater flexibility as a supplier and allows us to offer our customers additional choice. This flexibility is something which we believe we believe will win them business.

The reasons for adding an aluminium bi-fold to your offer are clear. Forecasts for the industry as a whole are mixed but aluminium and bi-fold doors, in particular, are on course for growth.

The Window, Door and Conservatory Markets in Housing in Great Britain report by Palmer Market Research, suggest that aluminium is on course to reach a 17-year high by 2020. This includes notable areas of growth in the aluminium bi-fold door sector.

This is forecast to continue through to 2020, achieving total growth of around 50% to 35,000 door sets per year.

The Ultimate Evolution allows you to access this growth but makes doing so simpler by making installation simpler, easier and faster.

Sliders UK announces MBO

By | Press releases

Sliders UK has announced the formation of a new senior management team as part of an ambitious strategy for significant new growth.

Created through a management buy-out, the new structure sees Alex Murphy, previously Operations Director, step up to a new role as Chief Executive Officer.

Ian Longbottom and Steve Mines remain in their respective roles, as Chairman and Sales Director and joined alongside Murphy in Sliders UK’s new senior team by Finance Director, Jonathan Foxcroft. Richard Harris and Russell Pryor also join the business as retained consultants.

Ian Longbottom, Chairman, Sliders UK

Ian Longbottom, Chairman, Sliders UK, said: “We have ambitions for significant long term growth and are already 18-months along the road towards it. This includes not only the creation of our new management structure as announced today but also the major investment which has already been delivered in our manufacturing capability.

“With increased capacity, even better quality and service and with some very exciting product developments on the horizon, we believe that the market offers considerable opportunity for sustained growth– our own but most importantly, that of our customers.”

The restructure, completed in April, sees Mike Spain, who co-founder Sliders UK, leave the business.

Sliders UK reported that year-on-year sales were up 16% on the same time last year at the end of 2016. It said this had been underpinned by new products, including the Ultimate Evolution and Sliders UK’s new Duraflex bi-folding doors, plus growth in composite door sales.

Sales of composite doors were also boosted by the specialist manufacturer’s investment in its new line. This means that Sliders UK can offer composite doors in 5-days or less.

“The restructure of our composite door line early has given us faster turnaround and an increasingly competitive offer at a time when reliability”, says Mines. “This has come at a time of not only growth in the composite door market but at a time when service in the sector has in general, dropped off.”

The Ultimate Evolution which features an adjustable jamb as standard has been key to Sliders UK’s continuing growth

Product development has also formed a key part of Sliders UK’s growth strategy. This includes the launch of the Ultimate Evolution aluminium bi-fold door in late summer last year.

Sitting alongside its established aluminium bi-fold door offer from ALUK, it features a highly innovative fully adjustable jamb option. This makes it far simpler to align the door, even where apertures are out of square –  cutting installation times to as little as 45 minutes.

PAS24 and Part Q compliant, it also launched the new Duraflex bi-folding door at the end of the year. This is fully integrated with the systems company’s Diamond suite, featuring beveled and chamfered options it achieves a DER ‘A’ rating and u-values as low as 1.1Wm2/K.

It’s launch and that of the Ultimate Evolution, sitting alongside its established Eurocell Ultimate Aspect PVC-U door range and the launch of the PremiLine PRO patio door from Kömmerling. .

Another Part Q ready door, it sits alongside Sliders UK’s established offer from Duraflex, giving the door specialist one of, if not the, industry’s largest bi-fold and patio door offers.

Longbottom continued: “The product innovation that we have delivered so far delivers incredible opportunity to our customers.

He concluded: “We believe that the range, the service levels and the quality that we’re able to offer from a single specialist supplier, delivers a real advantage and that that and the team and strategy which we now have in place, represent a strong foundation for our future growth and that of our customers.”
