Sliders UK reports significant Q1 growth

By | Press releases | No Comments

Sliders UK has reported significant Q1 growth on the back of increasing demand for enhanced security products.

The specialist door manufacturer, which last month was listed by the London Stock Exchange Group as among UK’s 1,000 fasted growing SMEs, reported that turnover was up by more than 31 per cent in Q1 2016, compared to the same time last year.

The growth coincides with significant investment by Sliders UK in its product offering. This has included three new door launches in the first three months of the year including the Veka Imagine bi-folding; the Kömmerling PremiLine PRO inline sliding door and a second aluminium bi-fold door system.

This comes in on top of established offers including the Eurocell Ultimate Aspect PVC-U bi-fold, inline sliding doors from Duraflex, and aluminium bi-folding and inline sliding doors from ALUK.

Available in a wide range of glass options, the offer has been carefully selected to meet end-user aspiration and to build in margin and opportunity for installers.

Steve Mines, Sales Director, Sliders UK said: “It’s been a very good start to 2016 with increases in turnover topping the 30 per cent in the first three months of the year.

“This is in part attributable to continued and growing demand for Secured by Design accredited products with notable pick-up in the commercial sector in Q1.

“We’re also doing more composite doors as the trade switches on to the benefits of buying from a single point of supply and the significant economies that that delivers.”

Including traditional and contemporary designs, Sliders UK Ultimate Collection composite doors are built around the market leading 44mm Nan Ya slab, with its high insulation foam core and robust through-coloured GRP facings.

This is combined with a choice of the fully reinforced Duraflex, Veka and Eurocell 70mm PVC-U outer frame and slim, low line aluminium thresholds with twin seals.

With multiple options on locking, an enhanced security option uses Fullex Kinetica TS007 3 Star Kitemarked cylinder system to deliver an SBD/PAS24:2012 option. Handles and door furniture are Fab & Fix.

Standard colours are black, red, blue, green, Gold Oak and Rosewood. In its entirety the range includes a choice of 40 satin finishes including the popular Chartwell, to greys including platinium, lead, and granite through to Pistachio and Claret.

“It’s very difficult to second guess the impact a referendum on UK membership of the UK is going to have, however, this aside, we’re forecasting continuing growth throughout the year”, continued Mines.

He concluded: “We’re seeing a real return of confidence and the investment that we have made so far this year, plus the very significant new developments that we have planned for later in 2016, will give us and most importantly our customers, some very unique opportunities.”

Opportunities for inline sliding patio doors in 2016

By | Analysis | No Comments

Steve Mines, National Sales Director Sliders UK explains how the second time replacements are generating significant new growth opportunities for inline sliding doors in 2016.

The impact second time replacements are having on window sales has been widely discussed but the opportunities generated by the replacement of inline sliding doors has not received anywhere near the same level of attention.

This is an oversight because the market potential, with the right product range, is huge. Older patio doors and PVC-U systems in particular were bulky, sightlines were ugly and they were often insecure – they represent a generation of products which are absolutely ripe for replacement.

According to market research by D&G, more than 1.8 million PVC-U patio doors have been made and fitted in the UK since 1980. The authors of the Window Industry Market Research Report, add “additionally there are many produced in aluminium that could be ready for replacement as the economy recovers”.

The replacement of early generation PVC-U conservatories, which frequently used PVC-U patios as both entrance doors but also room dividers, extends the reach of the potential market for second time replacement inline sliding patio doors still further.

The end user appeal of aluminium inline sliding but also and bi-folding doors, in part driven by the ‘Grand Designs’ effect, is immediately obvious.

Available in up to six panel combinations, Sliders UK’s three chamber Ultimate Aluminium inline sliding door is manufactured in the ALUK system. Configurable to a multiple combination of fixed lights and sliding doors, on single, double or triple tracks. We also offer an easy to use straight slide or ‘lift and slide’ specification.

But while aluminium inline sliding doors are seeing significant growth, there has also been a renaissance in PVC-U products. Slimmer and sleeker sightlines, plus significant innovations in security, coupled with the highest levels of thermal efficiency and low maintenance, mean that PVC patio doors continue to enjoy end-user appeal.

The Kömmerling PremiLine PRO which we launched in January, is a great example of the innovation that’s being delivered inline sliding u-PVC patio door technology.

With a high security locking mechanism operated through patented interlock shootbolt system, it’s PAS24:2012 and Secured by Design accredited. It delivers really strong aesthetics and gives our customers extended reach – as a Part Q but also Part M accredited door, the PremiLine PRO also meets Lifetime Homes.

We offer it in 2, 3 or 4 panel openings. High quality stainless steel tracks guarantee the maximum possible service life and smooth running, while the clean sightlines of the 70mm outer frame are further enhanced through a wide choice of colours and low sightline black or grey gaskets.

The PremiLine PRO features a patented internal shoot-bolt locking mechanism. Part Q approved, it's one of the most secure inline sliding patio doors on the market.

These innovations are immediately tangible to the homeowner and that equates to opportunity.

According to D&G total patio door sales grew by an estimated 7% to 55,000 in 2014, with further growth predicted last year. Still enjoying sustained appeal in new build, as a space saving but also comparatively low-cost product, investment in new build should also guarantee further growth through to 2018.

But with the majority of the 1.8million early PVC-U doors fitted since 1980 still in use, it’s this second time replacement market that has potential to deliver exceptional growth. This is an opportunity to sell in aluminium and bi-folding but at a more affordable price point, a new generation of highly innovative PVC patio doors.

This is why we have added the PremiLine PRO to our Ultimate Range alongside our offers from Duraflex. They represent cutting-edge products, which in delivering definitive advantages to the end-user, generate definitive opportunities for our customers in the trade.

Single Source

Sliders UK added the Kömmerling PremiLine PRO to its Ultimate range, giving it one of the industry’s widest product offers. Find out how single source supply can put money in the bank.

“It’s [the Kömmerling PremiLine PRO] an exceptionally good product and one which fits perfectly into our existing product portfolio”, says Steve Mines, Sales and Marketing Director, Sliders UK.

“It’s PAS24:2012 and Secured by Design accredited, delivers really strong aesthetics and gives our customers extended reach – as  a Part Q but also Part M accredited door, the PremiLine PRO also meets Lifetime Homes. It’s a cutting edge technology.”

Sliders UK added the PremiLine PRO to its Ultimate range at the start of this year. Available in 2, 3 or 4 panel openings, high security locking mechanism operated through patented interlock shootbolt system.

High quality stainless steel tracks guarantee the maximum possible service life and smooth running, while the clean sightlines of the 70mm outer frame are further enhanced through a wide choice of colours and low sightline black or grey gaskets.

The PremiLine PRO is opened and closed through a thumb-turn mechanism positioned centrally on the upright. This means that the it can be operated from a seated position which, when combined with a low threshold option, also makes it suitable for wheelchair use.

“The applications are multiple and across sectors” continues Steve. “Although retail probably fell a little short of our expectations in 2015, we saw growth in line with budget of around 10 per cent.

“We expect the industry to continue to see growth in 2016. Consumer confidence is high with household discretionary spend topping nine per cent growth at the end of last year – more than double that of 2014.

“But having the right products to access opportunities is going to be key. The PremiLine PRO, delivers really fantastic aesthetics, which will generate retail sales but we expect that in meeting Part Q but also Part, to drive sales in new build and social sectors.”

The PremiLine PRO features a patented internal shoot-bolt locking mechanism. Part Q approved, it's one of the most secure inline sliding patio doors on the market.

Suppling more than 300 inline sliding doors, 50 bi-folds and more than 200 composite doors to the trade each week, in addition to Kömmerling, Sliders UK manufactures in PVC-U systems from Eurocell and Duraflex and aluminium systems from ALUK.

Innovation has been central to Sliders UK’s strategy. The fabricator became the first manufacturer of a Secured by Design accredited inline sliding door in 2008, adding PVC-U and aluminium bi-fold doors to its staple product range in 2009, followed by a composite door offer in 2012.

Having restructured over last summer, with the appointment of founder, Ian Longbottom to Chairman and the recruitment of Alex Murphy to Head of Operations, the specialist door manufacturer has announced ambitious plans for 2016.

“The PremiLine PRO is the first of a series of product developments that we have planned for the first half of this year”, continues Steve. “This will give us an expanded aluminium and systems range and the benefits that go with that to our customers.

“Access to the right specification is always fundamental. We have and are building on an offer, which allows us to deliver incredible range to our customers from a single source of supply.

“That generates opportunities to win business but also gives them back time. It’s a single weekly order, a single delivery, a single invoice – it simplifies doing business and gives our customers more time to go out and win it.”

While analyst predictions for the window and door industry remain mixed, they do nonetheless, forecast growth of around five per cent to 2019 (Palmer Market Research).

And according to Palmer, demand for new generation aluminium and PVC-U inline-sliding and bi-folding doors will make them industry ‘star performers’ through to 2019.

Sliders UK has been careful to cherry-pick the systems it manufactures to support with end user choice in mind.

This, for example, informed its decision to manufacture the Ultimate Aspect Bi-fold Door from Eurocell. “A slim line energy efficient and low maintenance PVC system, the Ultimate Aspect Bi-fold is available in a two to seven panel configuration, allowing up to 90 per cent of the glazed screen to be opened”, explains Steve.

He continues: “At its very most basic, it generates USPs. The Kömmerling Product does exactly the same. We aren’t tied into exclusive manufacture agreements with anyone, which is why we have the flexibility to manufacture from the leading systems and most importantly those systems which deliver most to our customers.”

Sliders UK, while reporting continuing demand for its PVC-U ranges, has seen a dramatic increase in demand for its Aluk aluminium product offering. This includes a 225 per cent jump in aluminium bi-fold door sales last year – tripling its bi-fold door sales in less than 12-months.

Supplying fabricators and installers nationwide, Sliders UK, offers all this, plus more while still achieving and OTIF of 99.97 per cent and an industry-leading two-week lead time on most orders. These are also trackable after Sliders UK introduced a bar-coding system across its manufacturing process, late last year.

“For us it’s about building on our product portfolio so we continue to offer one of the industry’s widest ranges but most importantly, one which adds value to and generates opportunities for our customers.

“We’re underpinning this with continuing investment in our team and service offer and in delivering more to our customers, we expect to see further growth in 2016.”
